WordPress and Hosting
There are a couple of free options for blogging. These might be fine if you’re just wanting to write for the heck of it.
But, if you want to look professional or make money from blogging, you need to get started off right. Starting with a free blog site and then trying to move to a self-hosted WordPress site down the road will be a pain in the butt!!!
So if you’re a teacher seller on TeachersPayTeachers.com and ready to start a blog for your store, here’s what you’re going to need to do.
Find a host. I recommend Bluehost. This is who I use for my hosting. They’re known for having a fantastic service, and in the years I’ve been blogging I have never been dissatisfied. Wordpress is included for free with your hosting.
When you use my link, you can get hosting for only $3.95/month! Perfect for anyone just getting started in the blogging world. This is how I started out – I used someone’s link for the promotional rate and took off from there! Later on, I upgraded to the plus plan. But I started out with the basic plan, and you can too, unless you want to go for the extra storage space right away.
AND this price includes a FREE Domain name!
So, Step 1: Sign up for $3.95/month hosting with Bluehost.
Domain Names
This is the www.yourwebsite.com. The hosting packages from Bluehost all come with a free domain name (for 12 months – you’ll have to renew it eventually).
Choosing a domain name can be tricky. Try to stick with a .com because that’s what people will assume when they search for your site.
If you already have a TpT store, this shouldn’t be too hard. Use your store name! My store is The Super Teacher, and my domain name is www.thesuperteacher.com.
If you don’t have a TpT store, you might have to do some brainstorming. Luckily, Bluehost gives you the option to skip this step and decide later.
Install WordPress
Step 2: Install WordPress
Once you complete your registration with Bluehost, you can log in to go to your dashboard.
Look at the toolbar at the top of your screen. Click on “WordPress tools.”
Look on the left hand side and click “New Install.” Create a site name, username, and password and click “Install WordPress.” This should only take a minute or two.
When WordPress is done installing, you can go type your domain name into your browser bar followed by a “/wp-admin”. This will take you to your WordPress login. You’ll use this page for customizing your site and making posts, so go ahead and bookmark this page. For example, my WordPress login is found at www.thesuperteacher.com/wp-admin. So type www.yourteacherblog.com/wp-admin and you can use the username and password you just created to log in.
Congratulations, you just made a blog!
